Indonesia Featured in NewsHour's (PBS) Global Health Series

At times disturbing but always encouraging, PBS NewsHour shines a light on current developments in Indonesia. Ray Suarez serves up reports each night (which began Monday) on the broadcast this week but you can view them online as well.

The preview piece, "Indonesia: A Model For New Democracies" can be viewed below. It features comments from Sidney Jones, Rizal Mallerengeng, and Dewi Fortuna Anwar, all highly competent analysts. The series sheds light on the diverse nation's changing political landscape, deplorable conditions for people there with severe mental illness, the effect of rising food prices and research into a plant that could be used as a
male contraceptive." (PBS press release). In a second piece, Suarez explores Indonesia's
rapid growth and attempts to provide opportunities to the poor. Reporter Cat Wise relates the perils of Jakarta's traffic, not just as a source of road rage, but as a public health crisis.
